Riding Toward the Future: Our Commitment to Supporting Youth Cycling Teams

At The Shad Co, we’ve always believed that bikes can do more than just get you from point A to B—they create community, push personal boundaries, and unlock lifelong passion. That’s why we’re incredibly proud to support several outstanding local youth cycling teams who are shaping the future of the sport right here in our own backyard.

From the mountains to the race tracks, these teams are more than just competitive athletes—they’re communities built on mentorship, growth, and resilience. And we're honored to stand behind them, offering the resources, encouragement, and tools we wish we had when we were growing up.

Why We Support Youth Cycling

Growing up, many of us at The Shad Co spent weekends piecing bikes together in garages, chasing podium dreams with little guidance and even less gear. We know how tough it can be to break into the sport without access to the right support. That’s why we’ve made it our mission to be the bike shop and community we always needed—one that shows up for young riders no matter where they are in their journey.

Whether it’s through hands-on mechanical help, team sponsorships, or simply showing up to cheer from the sidelines, we’re here for the next generation.

The Youth Teams We’re Proud to Support

Each of the teams we work with brings something unique to the table—whether it’s a commitment to character-building, a focus on inclusion, or a culture of discipline and fun. Here’s a closer look at some of the remarkable teams we’re honored to support.

Foundre Racing is more than just a competitive mountain biking team—they’re a family of young riders driven by passion, performance, and purpose. Based in our local region, this team is known for its relentless spirit and commitment to developing young athletes both on and off the trail.

What sets them apart?

  • A focus on mentorship, with older riders guiding newer members.

  • Regular team clinics that focus not just on racing, but also trail etiquette, environmental stewardship, and leadership.

  • A strong sense of camaraderie—Foundre teaches its riders that success isn’t just about podium finishes, but about how you show up for your team and your community.

We’re inspired by their mission to use cycling as a way to develop confidence and character, and we’re proud to help fuel their rides.

East Valley Composite (NICA) -The Scorpions

Inspiring Excellence. One Trail at a Time.

East Valley Composite is a proud member of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) and serves as a community-based team for high school students across the region. With inclusivity and teamwork at the heart of their program, East Valley is helping young riders discover what they’re capable of—on two wheels and beyond.

Why we love this team:

  • Emphasizes inclusivity—welcoming riders of all backgrounds and skill levels.

  • Promotes life lessons through sport: responsibility, perseverance, and the value of hard work.

Mountain View High School MTB Team - The Toros!

Rooted in Grit. Racing with Heart.

Representing Mountain View High School, this team is part of the NICA racing league and showcases just how transformative high school mountain biking can be. These student-athletes are proving that with grit, determination, and the right support, they can take on any challenge.

What drives them:

  • A student-led culture that encourages responsibility, communication, and leadership.

  • Team rides and community outreach that keep riders connected to their peers and mentors.

  • A balance between academics and athletics—showing young riders how to manage their time and commit to their goals.

We’re thrilled to support the Mountain View team and see firsthand how mountain biking can shape confidence, resilience, and lifelong passion.

Young Riders in MBAA & USA BMX

Beyond team-based programs, we also support a growing number of independent young riders competing in the Mountain Bike Association of Arizona (MBAA) and USA BMX leagues.

  • MBAA gives kids as young as 6 a chance to race in a structured, supportive environment. These races spark early passion, offer fun competition, and foster community—all things we deeply believe in.

  • USA BMX is where speed, strategy, and skill come together. We’ve watched young riders gain discipline, courage, and sportsmanship through their time on the BMX track—and we’re there every lap of the way.

We’re constantly blown away by the drive and spirit of these young riders, and we consider it a privilege to play a part in their journey.

Let’s Keep the Wheels Turning

If you’re a young rider looking for guidance—or if you’re part of a youth team and need support—we want to hear from you. The future of cycling starts with the next generation, and we’re here to make sure that future is brighter than ever.

Come visit us at The Shad Co. Let’s ride farther, race harder, and build something lasting—together.
